AccuWeather forecasters say a blockbuster lake-effect snowstorm will blanket some places in western New York with snow, halting travel and possibly writing new marks in the weather history books.

The National Weather Service said the snow could cripple the most affected communities, including Buffalo, with periods of near-zero visibility.
