Inside Today host chronicles Al Roker’s scary health struggles as he now recovers from blood clots in his lung and leg

The Today host Al Roker has a history of medical scares as he updated his followers on his current health status from his hospital room.

Al, 68, — who has been with the Today Show for more than 24 years as their official weatherman — previously battled prostate cancer, emergency carpal tunnel surgery and a hip replacement.

On November 18, the NBC star revealed on social media that he had been admitted to a hospital.

In his Instagram post, Al shared a photo of a flower bouquet and a coffee mug with the words: “NBC News Weather.”

The Today host captioned his post: “Many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been.

“Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg, which sent some clots to my lungs.

“After some medical whack-a-mole, I am very fortunate to be receiving fantastic medical care and am well on my way to recovery.”

Recently, a source close to the beloved weathercaster exclusively told The US Sun that he is “not feeling well.”

“He’s been off the air for about two weeks. It’s been a constant issue he’s been dealing with.”

In November 2020, the TV personality revealed his prostate cancer diagnosis to co-stars and viewers.

About two months later, he underwent surgery to overcome an “aggressive” version of the disease.

Sharing photos with his wife and son, Al thanked “everyone at the Josie Robertson Surgery Center” and noted receiving “amazing care packages from my co-workers.”

Al felt “relieved to tell you all that I’ve had prostate cancer surgery and am back home.”

He returned to the show in December 2020 after an absence of almost nine months.

In September 2019, Al had total hip replacement surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery.

Anker underwent an hour-long surgery on his left hip after battling “excruciating pain” from osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease.

Two weeks after surgery, Al used a cane to return to the NBC show.

Before getting back on his feet, he took the help of a physiotherapist for about three hours.

Al described the scary rollercoaster ride: “It happened within three months.

“Suddenly, I preferred excruciating pain to a minor ache.”

In 2018, the show host underwent “emergency carpal tunnel surgery,” according to PEOPLE, just before making her Broadway debut.

The doctors had to fix a thumb problem he had developed during rehearsals.

Before going under the knife with general anaesthetic, he was rehearsing for diner owner Ol’ Joe in the Waitress musical.

During her segment, co-host Hoda Kotb, 58, described her co-star: “Only Roker had surgery yesterday and comes in today and Broadway is going to be on Friday.”

Al and his wife, Good Morning America host Deborah Roberts, have two children: Lila and Nicholas.
