Jharkhand: ED interrogates Hemant Soren for over 9 hours in illegal mining case. Ranchi News

Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren He became the first sitting CM of the country to be questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) when the central agency on Thursday questioned him for over nine hours in the alleged Rs 1,000-crore illegal stone and sand mining case. Sahibganj District in the State.
Soren reached the ED’s regional office around 11:50 am. Soren (47) left the ED’s office around 9:40 pm and went to his home with his wife Kalpana, who reached a little before 9 pm. JMM Central General Secretary and Party Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya Said, “No other date has been given to the CM to appear before the ED. Earlier in the day, Soren in a press briefing rejected the allegations and claimed that he was being framed as part of a larger political conspiracy.
The Ranchi administration had laid a three-layered security cordon around the ED’s Airport Road office at Hinno here and deployed over 200 police personnel of the state police’s Rapid Action Force as thousands of JMM supporters marched towards their home in the state capital. had gathered to express their anger against Central Government and Central Agencies.
Along with Soren, his MLA brother Basant Soren also went to the ED office. While Basant was not allowed inside the office premises, Soren went alone. Soon after Soren left, Basant said, “The BJP is troubling the CM because of the growing popularity of the JMM in the state. The CM will answer all the ED’s allegations.”
Congress state president after Soren’s return Rajesh Thakur Said, “All is well. UPA MLAs will hold a meeting at CM House on Friday.”
Meanwhile, ED officials remained tight-lipped about the findings of their interrogation.
Sources claimed that the sleuths rejected Soren’s contention that the quantity of stone excavated and shipped from Sahibganj was only 20% of the nearly nine crore metric tonnes of stone that has been mined across Jharkhand in the last few years. . Soren’s questioning has jolted the current grand alliance government of JMM, Congress and RJD as its ministers and lawmakers stayed at the CM’s residence and were keeping a close watch on the developments. ED officials had called Soren for questioning in July after he arrested his constituency representative Pankaj Mishra and found checks and passbooks signed by the CM in his possession.
The ED claimed that Mishra controlled illegal mining activities in Sahibganj and proceeds of crime to the tune of Rs 42 crore were traced. Earlier, Soren claimed that he was summoned immediately after the governor’s atom bomb taunt and hinted at a larger conspiracy to implicate him. He said the ED is making sensational statements without ascertaining the facts as it would take four times the quantity of stones to illegally deposit Rs 1,000 crore. He issued a point-by-point rebuttal to the ED’s allegations with data from the mining department, saying Rs 1,000 crore in illegal royalty is impossible. Godda MP Nishikant Dubey and former CM Babulal Marandi made fun of Soren. While Dubey said his statements were made out of fear, and as the son of “agitator” Shibu Soren, he should face the ED if he is innocent, Marandi said it took “mind” to understand. What is needed is that ED is probing illegal mining and not royalty evasion.
