Musk releases details of Twitter censoring Hunter Biden’s laptop: ‘Necessary to restore public trust’

Twitter CEO Elon Musk teased Wednesday that he may release more details about how the social media company censored the Hunter Biden laptop story during the 2020 presidential election.

News personality Alex LaRusso asked followers to “raise your hand” if they supported making public “all internal discussions regarding the decision to censor @NYPost’s story on Hunter Biden’s laptop”.

Musk replied, “This is necessary to restore public confidence.”

Many users agreed with Musk’s call for transparency, some responding with a raised hand emoji.

One user requested Musk to do another Twitter poll, referencing other polls done to help shape the direction of Twitter.

David Freiheit, who called Viva Frei, called Musk’s response “a reasonable commitment to make on Thanksgiving.”

Musk previously expressed his concern on Twitter censoring the New York Post. In April, he called the action “incredibly unfair”.

When the New York Post’s bombshell report was first published ahead of the 2020 election, several social media companies quickly removed posts about the story, including Twitter and Facebook. Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey admitted that the social media platform was wrong to interfere in Hunter Biden’s story.

Twitter censored the story in what they claimed at the time violated the company’s “hacked content policy”.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed earlier this year why Facebook suppressed the story during the election.

During an interview on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Zuckerberg acknowledged that the FBI contacted Facebook, warning the platform about “Russian propaganda” ahead of the Hunter Biden bombshell story. The platform manipulated algorithms to prevent the story from airing, which Zuckerberg defended due to warnings from the FBI.

In addition to censorship from Big Tech, several media outlets originally labeled the laptop as Russian misinformation. Dozens of former intelligence leaders and officials also signed a letter saying they believed the story was part of a Russian disinformation campaign.

Since then, several news outlets have independently confirmed the story.

CBS was the latest news organization to verify the laptop story, despite debunking the original New York Post story. Nearly two years later, media outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, NBC News and Politico have confirmed the story.

With more pressure mounting on Big Tech and more liberal media outlets corroborating the story, GOP lawmakers are demanding answers on the laptop as well as censorship of the story. After taking control of the House, Republicans shared their intention to investigate Hunter Biden’s business dealings and specifically look into whether his father, President Joe Biden, may have been involved.

After nearly two years of suppression, new light is shining on the Hunter Biden story, and Twitter is once again proving to be a key player in finding answers.
