New Delhi: Protests broke out across Maharashtra on Monday regarding Maharashtra Governor B.S. KoshyariControversial remarks about Chhatrapati Shivaji MaharajEven though the BJP went into full damage control mode to handle the fallout after its own leaders and allies demanded action.
Protests took place in Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune and Aurangabad demanding the removal of the Governor.
Koshyari’s remark that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a symbol of the “olden days” sparked a huge uproar, which escalated when Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis appeared to defend the embattled governor.

“One thing is clear that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will remain the hero and idol of Maharashtra and our country till the existence of sun and moon. There was no doubt about it even in Koshyari’s mind. Thus, by Different meanings have been drawn from the comments of the Governor,” Fadnavis had said.
The protesters include workers of Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and Congress NCP Also criticized BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi for “insulting” Chhatrapati Shivaji during a television debate.
BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Udayanraje Bhosale, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji, has demanded the removal of the Governor and Trivedi over their remarks. Bhosale said that if no decision is taken on his demand, he will decide his future course of action.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Supriya Sule criticized Fadnavis for his remarks: “I was expecting more from Fadnavis. He was chief minister for five years. You may have a different ideology, but if Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is being insulted and if you want to defend it, it is unfortunate. Going forward, the BJP has no right to take the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.”
Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, of the faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has also demanded Koshyari’s transfer out of the state.
“The governor should understand that the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj never get old and he cannot be compared with any great person in the world. My request to the BJP leaders at the Center is that a person who does not know the history of the state knows and how it works, send it elsewhere.”

The governor made the remarks after conferring D.Litt degrees on senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari and NCP president Sharad Pawar at a function held in Aurangabad.
