Who Was Jill Halliburton Sue?

Jill Halliburton Sue, born March 16, 1955, was a 59-year-old oil heiress from Whittier, California.

She was the granddaughter of Earle P. Halliburton, the founder of the Halliburton Company.

In 1966, Jill and her family settled in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and she moved to Davie, Florida, shortly after.

Jill’s community remembers her for volunteering her time for the Florida organization Insight for the Blind.

The non-profit team honored her memory and told CBS: “She was very popular with everyone and did whatever was needed to read or monitor recordings.

“This is a family and the people here have a calling and no one did it better than Jill.”

On 8 September 2014, Jill was pronounced dead at the home she shared with her family.

She is survived by her two children, Justin and Mandy, as well as her husband, Dr. Nan-Yao Hsu.

What happened to Jill?

A day before the day of her death, Jill and her husband Nan-Yao returned home from a holiday in Malaysia on Sunday, 7 May.

On Monday, May 8, Nan-Yao viewed live security footage of his home while in his work office at the University of Florida.

When he noticed an unfamiliar figure pacing around the house, he called his son, Justin, and instructed him to go home and investigate his residence.

When Justin arrived home, he found Jill dead in the bathtub of the house in her own blood.

His lifeless body was bound by his legs and hands and riddled with 25 knife wounds.

While the investigation was underway, the police accused Justin of murdering his mother.

However, when he was arrested due to traces of DNA recovered from the crime scene, suspicion shifted to Deonte Resils.

On May 20, 2022, Resiles was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Before the verdict could be delivered, the trial faced several distractions.

Examples included a mistrial, the defendant fleeing the court, as well as jurors voicing a verdict, while a preliminary murder charge was brought against Resiles.
