Zomato plans to lay off 3% of its workforce

New Delhi: Online food delivery platform Zomato on Saturday said it plans to lay off around three per cent of its total workforce in a bid to cut costs and boost profitability.
The announcement comes a day after the Zomato co-founder Mohit Gupta Left the organization on Friday.
This also comes in the backdrop of several global tech giants, including Amazon and Facebook announcing massive layoffs across the globe.
Zomato said the layoffs would be based on regular performance, reported IANS.
A company spokesperson said, “There has been regular performance-based churning of less than 3 percent of our workforce, nothing more.”
Zomato last week reported a narrow second quarter loss as the volume and value of its online orders grew.
The company currently has approximately 3,800 employees.
In May 2020, Zomato laid off around 520 employees, or 13 percent of its workforce, due to the slowdown in business following the COVID pandemic.
Earlier this week, Zomato had announced that it is heading the new initiative, Rahul Ganjuleaving the company.
Nitin Savara, the company’s deputy chief financial officer and vice president of global development, Siddharth Jhawarhas also resigned recently.
